Vintage Flame Coffee Table William Tillman 20th Century

William Tillman shaped rectangular coffee table having crossbanded top, on splay supports with brass caps and casters, 50cms high x 114cms x 50cms This is a fabulous Vintage coffee table by the master cabinet maker William Tillman, Circa 1980 in date. It is made of stunning mahogany crossbanded rectagular shaped top on splay supports with brass caps and casters. Purchased at great expense from Harrods in the 1980s. Bears labels for William Tillman. There is no mistaking the fine craftsmanship of this handsome console which is certain to become a treasured addition to your furniture collection. THE BOTANICAL NAME FOR THE MAHOGANY THIS ITEM IS MADE OF IS SWIETENIA MACROPHYLLA AND THIS TYPE OF MAHOGANY IS NOT SUBJECT TO CITES REGULATION. Condition: In excellent condition having been only cleaned, polished and waxed in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation. Dimensions in cm: Height 50 x Width 114 x Depth 50 Dimensions in inches: Height 1 foot, 8 inches x Width 3 foot, 9 inches x Depth 1 foot, 8 inches William Tillman - was making fine reproduction furniture from the 1970's until his retirement at the end of the 1990's and his work is considered to be of the highest quality and collected throughout the world. It has been sold in all of the famous London Stores including Harrods,Peter Jones and Maples and will almost certainly be considered important antique furniture of the future. Every piece of furniture was produced with the utmost skill and knowledge to ensure that the finished article would bear the most critical comparison with the original. Whilst the polish used was resistent to heat and water, the finished surface has a wax patination similar to that found on early furniture. Tillman pieces won the British Furniture Manufacturers, Showpiece of the Year award in three consecutive years. Flame Mahogany Thomas Sheraton - 18th century furniture designer, once characterized mahogany as "best suited to furniture where strength is demanded as well as a wood that works up easily, has a beautiful figure and polishes so well that it is an ornament to any room in which it may be placed." Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany." The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree. Our reference: A3424

    This is a large superb satinwood Sheraton Revival coffee table, mid-20th century in date. The square table top features painted decoration in the manner of Angelica Kauffman, featuring trophies and musical instruments with a foliage and foliate border. It is raised on four panelled pedestal tapings legs.
